GOOD FOR THE PRESBYTERIANS! LET THE CELL PHONES BE DAMNED AND THOSE WHO HAVE THEM IN CHURCH!

I have a confession to make. When I was a novice cell phone user, I forgot to remove it from my pocket prior to a daily Mass. It was in my left pocket. As fate would have it, it started to ring (traditional phone bell ring) as I was distributing Holy Communion. The alb I had on did not have a left pocket slit for me to easily reach the phone and in addition I was holding the ciborium with my left hand and distributing Holy Communion with my right. What an embarrassment!

For a few seconds I thought I was watching one of those pre-take off messages they show after you board the plane awaiting permission for take-off.

During the performance of our local orchestra a patron's cell phone began to ring. The fellow just sat there as if no one would notice. The conductor continued to direct the musicians and turned in time to the music and pointed the baton at the offender on the beat with a glare that caused the fellow to begin scrambling for the phone. For each performance since that event the conductor makes the cell phone announcement himself.

Not long after I got my cell phone I was at Mass, having forgotten to turn it off. Sure enough, it rang, and I couldn't find either the 'silent' or 'ignore' buttons. I ended up answering and immediately hanging up (on my beloved elderly aunt, I found out later). Talk about embarrassing!! I don't remember during what part of the service this occurred, so don't know if I've lost my salvation or just owe the church a couple of bucks. :)

So! When do we start showing this at Mass? You have my vote!

Cell phones,hand-held devices, and other self-stimulatory technological activities have made us the most distracted and rude society on earth. Not a single day goes by that I do not want to slap the *expletive deleted* out of some moron who is either carrying on a loud conversation in public, driving while texting, or engaging in some quasi-sexual behavior with a hand-held device...rubbing it, poking it, stroking it and some even making the accompanying moaning and keening sounds. It is completely insane!

Forwarded this to a Presbyterian friend who has now shared with most of the Westminster Council east of the Mississippi. I told him where I got it so there is hope even they will find their way back. I suppose it was meant to be....
